When we received a call from a young couple who wanted help making their new home “theirs”, one of the first questions they asked was “Would you even consider working on our home? It is located on cemetery grounds.” We most certainly hadn’t been asked that question before! About 30 seconds into speaking with Emily, we knew we would love working with her and her husband Dominic, and the opportunity sounded too interesting to pass up!
The previous occupants of this home were Dominic’s parents, who ran and operated the cemetery business. They were ready to retire and pass on the home and the responsibilities to their son Dominic and his wife Emily. They completely remodeled and updated the home, which was built in the early 1900’s. We were brought in before the remodeling was completed to select furnishings, artwork, window treatments and accessories to make the home reflect the new occupant’s personalities and all the things they love.
We love how bright and cheerful this home is! It absolutely does not look like a home built within a cemetery, and you can’t tell at all from the inside of the house. We used comfy, cozy fabrics and brought in beautiful shades of greens, blues and yellows to add plenty of color. We also incorporated a few family heirloom pieces paying tribute to their family heritage, while adding touches of modern comfort and personality to a home where this family can continue to make lasting memories!
The Kitchen
With already great bones, we added some personality to the kitchen with new roman shades, counter stools and accessories.
The Dining Room
With seating for six, this dining room is a great space for family meals, entertaining or game night. We particularly love how the blue and green patterned accents are replicated in the curtains and dining centerpiece!
The Living Room
Bright, fresh, comfy and casual– the best words to describe this living room. So much light floods this space from the large bay window making it so warm and inviting! We also had fun mixing new furniture and accessories with a few of the owners’ traditional furniture pieces passed down through their family, such as this beautiful grandfather clock.
