It’s time to present the last of the beautiful “Coastal Minnesota Retreat” that we recently completed! You’ve seen the gorgeous kitchen, great room and screen porch, and all of the main floor bedrooms and bathrooms. Now, we reveal the LOWER LEVEL of this amazing vacation home. Check out the basement, girls’ bedroom & bathroom, the “bunkhouse,” basement bar, and the laundry room!
REC ROOM & BAR
The recreation room comes fully equipped for some serious billiards or game night with friends and family. It has a conveniently located wet bar with a full-sized refrigerator for hosting some fabulous parties. The cabinetry is custom made with a rich knotty alder wood to bring in a rustic touch. Since the main level is so light and bright with a lot of white shiplap and tall ceilings, we wanted to create a little bit cozier and more masculine space to give a different feel. We kept a nod to our nautical feel by adding a tile backsplash that looks like worn white shiplap wood planks and ran it all the way to the ceiling for a dramatic effect. The wood shelves add a fun space to display some personality and to hold essentials like wine glasses or beer mugs. We custom designed the corbel brackets and had strips routed out on the bottom of the shelves to hide LED light strips that are controlled with a remote and can change colors. Party time! We added some handsome cabinet hardware, a sleek black faucet, and a gorgeous Antico Bianco granite on the bar countertop to bring a level of sophistication to this bar area.
FAMILY ROOM
This room is perfect for snuggling up and watching movies. The large screen t.v. is set on a stunning full wall of brick. We added a lot of character to the walls with sconce lighting on each side of the t.v. as well as the wood paneled sconces on each side of the bank of windows (not shown). We love wall lighting because it can add so much ambiance to a room. The glass door in the photo leads to a private wine cellar for the owners. The patio doors open up to a beautiful patio and outdoor fire pit (coming soon). We weren’t joking when we said this was the perfect place to have a party!
GIRLS’ BEDROOM
This room couldn’t be sweeter! We named this room “The Boathouse”. The weathered white headboards and furnishings bring a touch of a Nantucket feel. The gingham pillows with tassel trim along with a “darling” pillow add adorable style to these matching beds. And can we talk about the carpeting for a minute? We are in love with this plaid carpeting! We created a cozy corner with a stylish chair, the cutest little flower table, and pillows, blankets and a basket to add a touch of Bohemian style and color to the room.
GIRLS’ BATHROOM
The boathouse feel is carried into the en-suite bathroom with a playful mixture of fabulous tile. The feature wall of the shower has nautical star tile, the side walls have weathered whitewashed planks, and we used navy penny round tile on the shower floor. We chose a deep navy blue for the vanity and complemented it with brushed gold fixtures. The circular mirror adds whimsey and a perfect spot to check hair and makeup. Lovely details like the scalloped cabinet knobs, upgraded shower handle and adorable towel hooks take this bathroom to the next level!
THE BUNKHOUSE – (nicknamed The St. Croix room)
This room was designed for the best sleepover weekends with cousins or friends. Can you imagine all the fun memories these kids will carry with them of their time at the cabin yelling ghost stories and giggling until they can’t stay awake any longer? Every kid should have those experiences and this is the perfect place for it. The nautical theme continues, with boat paddles, embroidered pillows, rope mirror, buoys and hooks. “Check” out the plaid carpeting in this room! This one is a little darker and has a slightly different pattern than the other bedroom. We loved them both and couldn’t pick just one. We had so much fun with all of the different rooms in this house!
LAUNDRY ROOM
This laundry room is cute to boot. With Tile Shop Notting Hill tile as the backsplash, this laundry room is one no one would mind doing laundry in. We decided on navy blue cabinetry to add color and personality, and it goes beautifully with the tile.
Thanks for reading, we hope you have a wonderful weekend and Mother’s Day!
