Some homes have great bones but need a thoughtful refresh to better reflect the way their homeowners live today. For this project, our clients were ready to update several key spaces throughout their home, creating a more cohesive look, improving functionality, and introducing elevated details that would make a meaningful impact on everyday life.
What began as a primary bathroom remodel evolved into a comprehensive home transformation touching the primary suite, living room, guest bathroom, lighting throughout the home, and numerous finish updates that tied everything together. The result is a home that feels brighter, more refined, and thoughtfully curated from room to room, where every detail serves a purpose and beauty is found in simplicity.
One unique aspect of this project was our role beyond design. While we provide interior design services for every project, we don’t always serve as project managers. For select projects, we take on that additional responsibility, coordinating trades, managing schedules, overseeing details, and helping guide the project from concept through completion. This was one of those special projects, allowing us to ensure every decision and every detail worked together seamlessly from start to finish.

Reimagining the Primary Suite
The most dramatic transformation occurred in the primary suite. The existing bathroom felt compartmentalized and dated, with a separate shower area and closet layout that didn’t maximize the available space.
By removing walls and reconfiguring the floor plan, we created a more open, functional, and luxurious retreat. A new pocket door improved circulation between the bathroom and closet while preserving privacy, and the entire suite now feels significantly larger and more connected.
The new walk-in shower anchors the space with clean lines, understated luxury, and a sense of calm. Large-format porcelain tile extends across the shower walls and floor, creating a clean and uninterrupted aesthetic. A linear drain, frameless glass enclosure, integrated niche, handheld shower, and thoughtfully selected fixtures elevate the daily experience while maintaining a timeless design.
The vanity area received a complete refresh with new countertops, updated faucets, new mirrors, and elegant pendant lighting suspended above each sink. The shift from traditional vanity lighting to decorative pendants immediately added character and visual interest while contributing to the overall spa-like atmosphere.
Storage was another major priority. Custom closet solutions by California Closets transformed the organization and functionality of the adjacent closet, while additional cabinetry throughout the bathroom provides practical storage without sacrificing style. Features such as the heated towel rack, built-in bench, and carefully planned lighting layers ensure the space is as comfortable as it is beautiful.

A New Focal Point for the Living Room
The living room also underwent a significant transformation centered around the fireplace wall.
The original fireplace and built-ins no longer reflected the clean, elevated aesthetic the homeowners envisioned. By reframing the wall and introducing a sleek linear fireplace, the room gained an entirely new focal point. Full-height porcelain slabs provide a dramatic and modern new facade to the fireplace wall.
Custom cabinetry, shelving, and a new mantel add warmth and balance, while the updated design feels both contemporary and inviting. The fireplace wall now anchors the room with quiet confidence, balancing warmth, texture, and architectural interest whether they are entertaining guests or enjoying a quiet evening at home.
To further enhance the space, a lighter and fresher paint color was added to the walls, new carpeting was installed and lighting throughout the main level was updated. Replacing dated fixtures with a curated mix of recessed lighting, decorative pendants, and a statement chandelier helped modernize the home while improving both functionality and ambiance.

Small Changes, Big Impact
While the primary suite and fireplace transformation command attention, many of the project’s most impactful improvements came from updates throughout the rest of the home.
Fresh paint across the entire main floor instantly brightened the interior and created a more cohesive backdrop for furnishings and finishes. Updated lighting throughout hallways, the foyer, stairway, office, and bedrooms helped modernize the home’s overall appearance while improving day-to-day functionality.
Every detail was considered, ensuring that even the supporting spaces contributed to the home’s renewed sense of cohesion.

A Guest Bathroom Worth Noticing
The main floor guest bathroom may be smaller in scale, but it delivers one of the home’s most memorable design moments.
Outdated flooring, fixtures, and finishes were replaced with timeless materials that complement the home’s overall aesthetic, while a bold navy and gold wallpaper feature wall introduces personality, depth, and a touch of drama. The rich color palette creates an unexpected jewel-box effect, transforming what was once a purely functional space into a room that feels intentionally designed and full of character.
New porcelain tile flooring, updated countertops, fresh paint, modern plumbing fixtures, and updated lighting complete the transformation. The combination of classic finishes and statement wallpaper strikes the perfect balance between sophisticated and playful, creating a space that guests are sure to remember.
Rather than feeling like an afterthought, the guest bathroom became an opportunity to take a design risk and create a memorable experience—proving that some of the smallest rooms in a home can leave the biggest impression.

The Final Result
What makes this project special isn’t any single feature—it’s the way every improvement works together to create a more intentional home.
From the reconfigured primary suite and custom storage solutions to the striking fireplace wall and thoughtfully updated finishes throughout, every decision was made with both beauty and functionality in mind. The result is a home that feels elevated without feeling formal, luxurious without feeling excessive, and thoughtfully tailored to the way the homeowners live. Clean lines, purposeful details, and timeless materials create spaces that feel effortless, comfortable, and enduring.
Projects like this remind us that great design goes beyond selecting beautiful materials. It is about solving problems, improving everyday experiences, and creating spaces that continue to make an impression long after the project is complete.
The beauty of this project lies not in excess, but in intention. Every update was thoughtfully considered, resulting in a home that feels refined, welcoming, and effortlessly livable—a true example of sophisticated simplicity.
