Why we reset our homes—and how to change the feeling of a space with simple, intentional details
There’s a reason we all feel the urge to “spring clean,” and it has less to do with cleaning… and more to do with how a space makes us feel.
After months of winter, our homes can start to feel heavy. Layers build up. Surfaces collect more than they should. And without even realizing it, the energy of the space shifts.
As designers, we don’t just clean—we reset. We strip things back, rethink what’s visible, and intentionally rebuild each space so it feels lighter, calmer, and more aligned with how we want to live in it.

Start by Clearing Visual Noise
The biggest transformation you can make in a space isn’t adding something—it’s removing what doesn’t need to be there.
When countertops, shelves, and cabinets are overcrowded, your home immediately feels busier. Even if everything is technically “clean,” it won’t feel calm.
We always start by editing down to what you actually use and love. Then, instead of putting everything back the same way, we reintroduce items with intention.
One of the easiest ways to reduce visual noise is by creating consistency. Decanting pantry items into clear airtight container instantly simplifies what you see and removes the distraction of packaging. For cabinets that tend to collect clutter, a clear container keeps everything accessible without feeling chaotic.
The goal isn’t emptiness—it’s clarity.
Favorite Finds:
- Clear airtight pantry containers (great for dry goods + snacks)
- Wood lid food storage (a second option to mix and match)
- Glass jars with cork lids (perfect for countertops)
- Woven storage baskets (entry closets, mudrooms, open shelving)
- Turntables/lazy Susans (life-changing for deep cabinets)

Make Everyday Moments Feel Intentional
One of the biggest differences between a designed home and an everyday home is this: nothing feels accidental.
Instead of scattering frequently used items across a surface, we group them. We give them a place. We make them feel like they belong.
This is where a simple shift can completely change how your home feels.
Create a Pretty Vignette for Frequently Used Items
Think about your sink area, your coffee station, or even your bathroom counter. Instead of leaving items out individually, bring them together on a small tray or surface and edit them down to just what’s needed.
Suddenly, it’s not clutter—it’s a moment.
A few pieces we love for this:
- Multipurpose Cutting Board
- Soap Tray
- Espresso Accessory Cup & Spoons that can be left out

Upgrade What You See Every Day
We always say—your home will only feel as good as the details you see every day.
And often, it’s the most functional items that disrupt the look of a space the most. Bright labels, mismatched bottles, plastic everything… it adds up.
But when you swap those out for more elevated versions, the shift is immediate.
Cleaning products in amber glass bottles feel softer and more intentional. A wood-handled dish brush at the sink adds warmth instead of visual clutter.
These aren’t big changes—but they completely change how a space feels.
If it’s always out, it should always look good.
Some Faves:
- Amber glass spray bottles and our favorite label maker
- Minimalist soap dispensers (matte white, black, or glass)
- Wood dish brushes + refill heads
Bring in Warmth Through Texture
After you’ve simplified and refined, the next step is bringing the space back to life.
A home that’s too stripped down can feel cold. What makes it feel inviting again is texture—natural materials that soften the space and make it feel layered.
We love adding in pieces that are both functional and beautiful. Think baskets that hold everyday items but also add warmth. Linen towels that feel intentional when draped over a handle. Small wood accents that break up harder surfaces.
A few easy additions:

Finish with One Simple Layer
The final step isn’t about adding more—it’s about adding just enough.
Once a space is clean and organized, we always go back in and add one soft finishing layer. Something that makes the space feel fresh and lived in again.
Fresh flowers. A simple candle. A small piece of greenery.
It doesn’t need to be complicated—it just needs to feel intentional.

Our Final Thought
Spring cleaning isn’t really about cleaning—it’s about resetting how your home feels.
When you remove the excess, refine what’s visible, and thoughtfully add back in just a few beautiful, functional pieces, everything shifts. Your home feels lighter. Calmer. Easier to live in.
And that’s always the goal.
