We’re so excited to finally share this beautifully layered main-level transformation! It is always the greatest compliment to be asked to work with a client again. I had the pleasure of helping this family design their home when it was built ten years ago. As their 2 daughters are now in college, they started to think about moving and perhaps downsizing. However, the more they looked around, the more they realized that they loved their neighborhood and their home, but it just needed to be updated to reflect their current aesthetic and lifestyle.

THE STORY & THE VISION
From the very beginning, this project was about creating a home that feels cohesive, intentional, and elevated—while still remaining warm, livable, and welcoming. Every space was thoughtfully reimagined to support how the homeowners live day to day, with materials and details that feel timeless rather than trendy. Our clients wanted a more modern, rustic and relaxed vibe, but also wanted to lighten up the overall feel of their home.

KITCHEN
The kitchen serves as the heart of the home and sets the tone for the entire renovation. All-new cabinetry in a new modern, slim shaker style brings a refined, classic foundation. The light perimeter cabinetry keeps the space feeling open and airy, while the rift sawn white oak island introduces warmth and a natural focal point that grounds the room.
To help our clients confidently visualize the transformation, we created detailed 3D renderings of both the kitchen and the fireplace wall early in the design process. These renderings allowed us to explore layout changes, material pairings, and scale—ensuring every decision felt intentional long before construction began. This collaborative step gave our clients clarity and confidence, and ultimately helped the finished space come together exactly as envisioned.
Functionality was a major priority. One of the biggest impacts the new design had was expanding the back wall of cabinets by making the opening to the home office smaller and adding a glass door. It allowed us to add another 3 feet of cabinets to the kitchen. We also reworked the appliance layout to improve both function and flow, streamlining the cabinetry while elevating the overall design. A statement Wolf range anchors the cooking wall beneath a custom wood hood, while a dedicated coffee station with floating oak shelves creates a thoughtful moment for daily routines. The island was squared off and expanded, which helped eliminate an awkward gap between the island and the cabinets. The new island has a lot more storage space and can comfortably seat family and guests, making it a true gathering space. Dramatic quartz veining and a thicker, mitered edge give the island a furniture-like presence, balanced by softer, more subtle countertops along the perimeter.

LIVING ROOM
Just beyond the kitchen, the great room fireplace wall became a defining feature of the home. The original fireplace was replaced with a sleek linear design and wrapped floor to ceiling in horizontal shiplap, painted a rich, moody black for depth and contrast. A substantial wood mantel and custom cabinetry frame the fireplace, while rift sawn white oak floating shelves add warmth and dimension.
To further elevate this space, we layered in grasscloth wallpaper along the fireplace wall. Its subtle texture brings warmth and visual interest, softening the darker elements and adding a refined, tailored feel without overwhelming the design—one of those details that quietly elevates the entire room. Brushed brass wall sconces add beautiful, ambient lighting that takes this feature wall to the next level.

MAIN LEVEL LIVING
New wide-plank oak flooring was installed throughout the main level, creating continuity from space to space and lightening the overall feel of the home. Updated lighting—both decorative and architectural—adds warmth, balance, and a sense of polish across the kitchen, dining, and living areas. All new furnishings lightened the feel of the room and created a lovely, cozy space. We also updated the stairway railings and balusters, as well as the carpeting going up to the second floor.
Supporting spaces received just as much attention. The pantry was refreshed with new surfaces and finishes that feel functional yet elevated. Beautiful brick-style tile was set in a herringbone pattern and replaced the vinyl flooring in the pantry, mudroom and powder bath. A previously undefined flex room was transformed into a light-filled home office, now enclosed with a custom-made, glass-paneled door that provides privacy while allowing natural light to flow freely.
Even the powder room became a design moment of its own. Here, we introduced a bold yet sophisticated wallpaper that adds personality and depth—proving that small spaces are the perfect opportunity to have a little fun with pattern and texture. Refreshed lighting, mirror and art round out the space to give it a new look to tie in with the rest of the main floor.
