We’re excited to share The Modern Classic Refresh, a bright and uplifting transformation for a recently retired client entering a beautiful new phase of life. After years of living in a home that felt dark and outdated, she was ready for a space that reflected lightness, calm, and a sense of renewed joy. With five beloved grandkids, creating a welcoming, comfortable environment for frequent visits was just as important.
The vision: a home filled with warmth, natural light, soft modern-classic tones, and playful touches that feel unmistakably hers.
THE STORY & THE VISION
This refresh centered on contrast—reimagining a dated, shadowed home into one that embraces brightness and ease. The house itself offers great natural light, especially in the kitchen and dining area, which served as a foundation for the design direction. Soft, warm neutrals on the walls and crisp white trim help carry that brightness throughout the entire home.
Flow and cohesion guided every decision. We wanted each room to feel connected without losing personality, adding gentle layers of contrast and texture to keep the home visually rich while maintaining an overall sense of serenity.

KITCHEN — BRIGHT, FUNCTIONAL & BEAUTIFULLY BALANCED
The kitchen became the heart of this transformation. Natural light pours in through generous windows, illuminating the bright white shaker cabinetry and quartz surfaces, now unified at a single counter height. We had an entirely new center island made, replaced the glass upper cabinets with solid doors, and painted all of the existing cabinetry white. We replaced all of the countertops and extended the quartz up the back wall, creating a full-height, seamless backdrop that enhances the space’s clean, cohesive feel.
The island features subtle post-like detailing reminiscent of built-in furniture and is paired with carefully selected stools. CAFE appliances and a mix of black and honey-toned brass hardware elevate the kitchen with a refined yet approachable aesthetic. Extra storage and thoughtful layout tweaks make this kitchen as functional as it is beautiful.
We replaced the pendant light fixtures and updated the recessed lights to more efficient and warm LED lighting.
The kitchen is now bright, inviting, and deeply functional—designed for everyday ease and effortless gatherings.

LIVING ROOM — BRIGHT, COHESIVE & BEAUTIFULLY RENEWED
The living room received a thoughtful refresh that helps the entire main level feel unified and connected. One of the biggest improvements was replacing the original wall-to-wall carpet with new hardwood floors throughout the main living spaces. This instantly brightened the home, added warmth, and created the clean, continuous flow the client was craving. We then layered in area rugs to bring softness, texture, and subtle style to the newly opened-up space.
A key update in this room was reimagining the fireplace and the dated cherrywood built-in that once held the TV. Removing it allowed us to design a lighter, more functional set of built-ins—clean-lined, bright, and perfectly suited for both storage and the display of cherished family photos. We kept the fireplace but dramatically changed the facade with a simple, but classic fireplace mantle and surround, and an eye-catching black geometric tile with pops of metallic gold.
To complete the refreshed focal point, a new Samsung Frame TV now hangs above the fireplace, blending in like artwork and offering a modern, understated presence.
The result is a living room that feels brighter, more cohesive, and effortlessly tied into the rest of the refreshed home—comfortable, warm, and ready for gathering with loved ones.

DINING ROOM — DRAMA, WARMTH & A TOUCH OF GLAMOUR
The dining room is where this project gets to show off a little personality. We painted the table and the existing built-in cabinet a bold, charcoal black for depth and contrast, and paired it with a dark, drummed chandelier lined in warm gold. This single fixture adds the most amazing glow—soft, warm, and slightly glamorous—without feeling fussy or overly formal. We added woven grasscloth shades to soften the room and add texture, mimicking the rattan in the island counter stools.
It’s a room that shifts beautifully from everyday meals to special occasions.

BEDROOM, BATHROOM & WALLPAPER MOMENTS — CALM WITH A PLAYFUL TWIST
One of the client’s biggest requests was to incorporate fun wallpaper—and we happily delivered. The bedroom and bathroom maintain a light, calming base, but the wallpaper introduces personality, movement, and a sense of joy. Some patterns are soft and subtle; others lean more whimsical. Each selection reflects her spirit and adds a thoughtful layer of design to these intimate spaces.
We lightened up the bedroom by painting the walls and trim, replacing the bed with a cozier and lighter upholstered bed frame, added soft roman shades and a gorgeous light fixture. These rooms now feel like a retreat—peaceful, bright, and sprinkled with charm.

The Modern Classic Refresh is everything she envisioned: bright, warm, modern, and filled with meaningful details. It honors this new chapter in her life with spaces that feel comforting, inspiring, and personal.
With five grandkids to host and a refreshed home she truly loves living in, this transformation sets the stage for countless new memories—and we were honored to bring it to life.
