There’s something effortlessly timeless about a home that blends European sophistication with cozy, approachable design. Our Modern European Charm project, nestled in a lovely new neighborhood of Mahtomedi, captures that perfect balance — warm and inviting, yet modern and refined.
A Welcoming Exterior & Design Vision
From the outside, the home immediately signals a thoughtful mix of European elegance and approachable charm. Natural stone, warm siding tones, and black-framed windows create a look that’s sophisticated yet inviting. Our clients wanted a home that feels personal and functional, with spaces that encourage both everyday life and entertaining.
Inside, their vision was clear: a home that feels cozy yet modern, where clean lines meet rich textures, and each room is both lived-in and beautifully curated. They were drawn to earth tones, creamy neutrals, and organic materials, accented by touches of deep green, rich burgundy accents, natural stone, gold, and luxe velvet. We embraced their love for mixing high and low — blending some approachable finds from retail stores with custom-designed elevated pieces — resulting in a home that is uniquely theirs.
We were thrilled to partner with Kootenia Homes on this project, ensuring the design vision was executed seamlessly from concept to finish.

Entryway Elegance
The entryway sets the tone for the home with a beautiful detail wall featuring elegant molding and timeless lighting. Classic sconces and a statement fixture create a warm, inviting first impression while adding sophistication and charm. It’s a space that balances style and functionality — welcoming guests while immediately reflecting the personality of the home.
Great Room Comfort
The Great Room is the heart of everyday living, combining comfort and sophistication. Custom wood ceiling beams and a stunning 2-story stone fireplace anchor the space, while built-ins and shelving offer both style and practical storage.
Lighting again plays a starring role: eye-catching fixtures bring warmth and personality, from the chandelier above to the picture lights flanking the fireplace. A thoughtful mix of textures such as soft upholstery, carpet underfoot, and natural wood tones ensures this is a welcoming and effortless gathering space for family and friends.
The Heart of the Home – Kitchen, Dining & Pantry
The kitchen sets the stage for modern European elegance with a natural edge. The custom stone range hood surround nods to old-world European charm while maintaining a sleek, modern silhouette. Warm wood cabinetry and natural quartzite stone countertops provide a timeless foundation, while we created a backsplash that ties the look together. A thoughtfully designed pantry adds both storage and functionality without compromising style. Hammered brass lighting selections provide a soft, ambient glow, enhancing the cozy-yet-refined atmosphere.
The dining area continues the story — modern lighting above, layered textures below, and a soothing palette that makes every meal feel special.
Mudroom & Powder Bathroom
Connected to the kitchen, the mudroom and powder bathroom serve as a practical yet stylish transition space. We layered textures and finishes to keep these areas functional while maintaining a cohesive design story, blending natural materials with thoughtful details that feel effortless. The wallpaper in the powder bath is a favorite feature of ours. It elevates the simple space and creates a room that they are proud for guests to see.
Serene Bedrooms & Spa-Worthy Primary Bathroom
The primary bedroom and bathroom embrace a calm, earthy palette of greens, creams, and neutrals, creating a serene retreat. Natural materials, subtle gold accents, and carefully curated lighting elevate each space without overwhelming it.
Other bedrooms and bathrooms take a different approach — bold wallpaper, playful tile patterns, and impactful color choices make these areas fun yet memorable, adding personality and energy while remaining cohesive with the overall home.
Four Season Porch & Office
The Four Season Porch offers a perfect year-round retreat, featuring a stone fireplace surround, warm wood mantle, and comfortable seating. The sage green walls echo the nature outside the windows. Just across the hallway, the home office mirrors the porch’s bold yet timeless aesthetic, featuring a striking slatted wall juxtaposed against the color-drenched slate blue walls and tri. These details were designed to boost both productivity and creativity. In both spaces, darker hues and thoughtful details create dramatic yet sophisticated statements.
Lower Level Fun & Function
The lower level is a hub of activity and entertainment. A sport court and home gym make fitness convenient, while the bar area with a full wine wall sets the stage for gatherings. A game table and shuffleboard bring playful energy, complemented by a lower level bathroom with plaid-patterned porcelain tile for a pop of fun. A feature wall painted in dark Grays Harbor paint, paired with built-in cabinetry and soft plaid carpet, creates a cozy entertainment space perfect for movie nights, the big game or just casual lounging.
The lower level also houses a versatile craft room, designed for creativity and functionality. A rolling table can be moved to the side to allow a Murphy bed to fold down, instantly transforming the space into a guest room. A built-in desk offers a quiet spot for work-from-home days, where productivity meets calm creativity. We love the pretty rosy-taupe paint color on the custom-built cabinetry and murphy bed!
The Finishing Touches
Throughout the home, so many of our favorite elements shine — striking lighting, natural stone finishes, and bold yet timeless colors. Every detail — from flooring to custom cabinetry finishes, was selected to complement the home’s cohesive, natural palette. The result is a home that feels European-inspired but not too formal. It is elegant, organic, and full of life.
