A Refresh That Balances Beauty with Everyday Life
For this young family, “home” needed to feel inviting, fresh, and personal – a place where custom design met kid-friendly practicality. Located in a beautiful Woodbury neighborhood, this refresh centered around two important spaces: the dining room and powder bathroom. Both had good bones, but were in need of some warmth, personality, and modern charm to feel like part of their forever home.

The Vision
Our clients came to us wanting to take their builder-grade finishes and elevate them into something that felt more aligned with their own style – what they described as modern organic. They were drawn to light and airy spaces with neutral tones, clean lines, and subtle natural textures. With a four-year-old and a playful cat in the mix, everything also needed to be durable and family-friendly.
One of the main goals? Help with decision fatigue. They had a general sense of what they liked (and didn’t like), but needed design guidance, visual options, and a trusted partner to bring it all together.

Foyer: A First Impression with Personality
The entryway is the first thing you see when stepping into the home—and in its original state, it felt a bit plain and forgettable. To give it some much-needed character, we added custom board and batten millwork along the walls. This simple but impactful addition brings architectural interest and helps tie the foyer into the rest of the home’s fresh, modern-organic feel.
It now feels like an intentional part of the design story—warm, welcoming, and full of personality from the moment you walk in.
Dining Room: Layered & Personal
The dining room transformation is all about balance – between casual and elegant, family-focused and timeless. We started by installing vertical shiplap to create subtle architectural interest and a beautiful backdrop for one of our favorite features: a family photo gallery wall.
By incorporating a picture ledge and leaning black-and-white portraits in streamlined black frames, we gave the space personality without feeling cluttered. It’s warm, lived-in, and meaningful – while still looking elevated.
A natural wood dining table brings warmth and texture, while the black chairs tie in with the frame accents and light fixture. The chandelier was one of the few elements we kept from the original space – it already had just the right amount of sparkle and contrast, so we designed around it. Sometimes a successful refresh means knowing what to keep just as much as what to change.
To make the room feel even more tailored and functional, we added a beautiful built-in buffet area, giving the family additional storage while enhancing that custom, finished feel. Our clients needed room for both kid craft projects and serving pieces. Their dining room needed to function as a crafting space, as well as a great space to host birthday parties and family dinners.
We added beautifully simple custom-made linen draperies to soften the hard surfaces in the room and to allow for light control and privacy. A simple black metal French-return drapery hardware ties in with the black & neutral color palette and adds a touch of elegance.

Powder Room: Small But Statement-Making
Right off the hallway, this small powder bathroom now packs a serious design punch. We swapped out the pedestal sink for a custom-made rift sawn oak vanity with much needed storage. We added pretty customized details with the reeded wood inset and glass hardware – proof that even the smallest updates can feel incredibly special.
To soften the space and introduce movement, we added a dreamy eucalyptus-print wallpaper in calming neutral tones. Paired with classic subway tile wainscoting, matte black fixtures, and a soft arch mirror framed in gold, the room now feels cohesive, fresh, and elevated.

The Final Result
We went from builder-basic to a calming, tailored update that truly reflects the family’s style and needs. It’s proof that a refresh doesn’t have to be a full gut to make a lasting impact.
This project was a joy to bring to life, and we’re so grateful our clients trusted us to help turn indecision into inspiration.
