Spring is in the air, and you know what that means – it’s time for some good old-fashioned spring cleaning! But let’s be honest, we as designers like to use this as the perfect excuse to refresh and redecorate. And no, that doesn’t mean rushing out to buy all new things (unless you really want to). Instead, it’s about repurposing, reimagining, and maybe even just storing things away to make your space feel brand new. So, grab your cleaning supplies – and your creative spirit – and let’s get to it!
1. Declutter Like a Designer
Think of this as an interior design edit. Go room by room, remove what no longer serves you, and give your favorite pieces a moment to shine. Maybe that lamp in your bedroom deserves a new home in the living room? Or perhaps that cluttered bookshelf could be re-styled with fewer knick-knacks and more intentional decor? Less is more, and this is your chance to let your home breathe.
2. Refresh Your Soft Surfaces
Pillows, throws, and rugs—we love them, and they deserve some extra care after a long winter. Give them a good wash or steam clean, fluff up your pillows, and maybe even swap some around! That throw from the living room might look amazing in the guest bedroom. Instant refresh, zero cost!
3. Revive Your Kitchen & Pantry
This is the time to say goodbye to those expired spices and mystery condiments in the back of the fridge. While you’re at it, why not rearrange your open shelves or add stylish baskets to your pantry? Functionality meets beauty—our favorite combo!
4. Bring the Outdoors In
Nothing says spring like fresh greenery. But instead of buying new plants, why not propagate some of your existing ones? Move a plant from one room to another or switch out vases for a fresh floral look. A little rearranging goes a long way!
5. Deep Clean High-Touch Areas
It’s not glamorous, but disinfecting doorknobs, light switches, and cabinet handles is a must. Bonus tip: If your hardware is looking tired, why not swap out drawer pulls or cabinet knobs? A tiny change that makes a big impact. And don’t forget about remotes, keyboards, and light fixtures—they collect dust too!
6. Swap Out Seasonal Decor
Think of this like transitioning your wardrobe. Pack away the heavy, dark-toned accents and bring in lighter, brighter pieces. Maybe swap in a breezy linen throw or trade out that deep-hued vase for something fresh and airy. Same home, fresh look! Even something as simple as updating pillow covers can make a huge difference.
7. Refresh Your Entryway
Your entryway sets the tone for your home. Clear out winter’s clutter, add a stylish catch-all tray, and maybe swap in a new rug or art piece from another room. First impressions matter, even if they’re just for you! Make sure to give your doormat a good shake (or replace it if it’s looking tired) and add a fresh floral arrangement or potted plant for an inviting touch.
8. Give Your Windows Some Love
Let there be light! Clean windows make a huge difference, instantly making your home feel brighter and more inviting. Don’t forget to clean your blinds and window sills – dust loves to settle there! A streak-free shine will make your view that much better and bring in all the gorgeous natural light that spring has to offer.
9. Organize and Elevate Your Storage
Storage doesn’t have to be boring. Use woven baskets, decorative bins, or even repurpose a vintage tray to corral everyday items stylishly. If it looks good, you’re more likely to keep it tidy (win-win!) Also, consider a donation bin – if you haven’t used something in the last year, it might be time to part ways.
10. Add a Signature Scent
A freshly cleaned home should smell just as amazing as it looks. Swap out those winter candles for something fresh like citrus, lavender, or eucalyptus. Bonus points if you decant your cleaning supplies into pretty glass bottles – because, why not?
Spring cleaning isn’t just about scrubbing – it’s about refreshing your space in a way that feels fun and inspiring. So embrace the season, rearrange to your heart’s content, and let your home reflect the lightness of spring. Happy cleaning (and redecorating)!
