This project began when a past client reached out, feeling overwhelmed by the process of selecting design elements for their new home on White Bear Lake. Having collaborated on remodeling projects in their previous home, we had developed a wonderful working relationship, and I was thrilled to help bring their vision for this stunning new build to life. With a design aesthetic inspired by the timeless charm of Nantucket, the goal was to create a home that felt airy and bright while maintaining warmth and character. Expansive windows frame breathtaking views of the lake, so we prioritized maximizing natural light and connection to the outdoors. To balance the crisp, coastal palette, we incorporated layers of texture and rich materials, ensuring the home felt inviting rather than stark. In collaboration with “dream team” TEA2 Architects and Kootenia Homes, every detail was carefully considered to achieve a seamless blend of elegance and comfort.

A Classic Exterior with a Coastal Twist
The home’s exterior showcases classic architectural elements with a fresh, coastal twist. A soft, warm gray façade with crisp white accents sets the tone for the Nantucket-inspired aesthetic. Natural stone, painted shakes, and circular windows add timeless character, while a copper weathervane serves as a charming finishing touch. The lakeside of the home is designed for both beauty and functionality, featuring a second-story balcony, ample patio space, and an impressive stone wall that separates the lush lawn from the sandy shoreline. A built-in grilling deck with a stone surround, integrated hood vent, and sleek countertops ensures outdoor entertaining is effortless. A dedicated storage closet keeps beach and boating essentials organized and within easy reach.

A Cozy and Inviting Living Room
The living room is a true reflection of the homeowners’ style, blending comfort and elegance effortlessly. They had several cherished furniture pieces they wanted to incorporate, so we worked to seamlessly integrate them into the design. A classic yet relaxed sectional provides ample seating for family gatherings, while a pair of beautifully upholstered armchairs add a touch of sophistication. A statement coffee table anchors the space, tying together textures of warm burlwood for a balanced look.
A stunning fireplace, framed by custom built-ins, serves as the heart of the room. The textured stone surround keeps things feeling organic and natural, while layered textures and neutral tones add depth and interest. Thoughtful lighting, from strategically placed sconces to a central chandelier, enhances the warm and inviting ambiance. With plenty of space for entertaining or cozy nights in, this living room is designed for both style and function.
THE PLAN

A Kitchen That Works Hard and Looks Beautiful
The kitchen is a showstopper, combining understated luxury with everyday functionality. Cambria quartz countertops and a seamless quartz backsplash create a polished look, while soft white cabinetry pairs beautifully with a rich, knotty alder wood island. Polished nickel fixtures add just the right touch of sophistication. Just off the main kitchen, a thoughtfully designed pantry keeps everything running smoothly—featuring a second fridge, an extra sink, and plenty of storage to keep clutter at bay. And let’s talk about the backsplash—hand-painted clay tiles from Tabarka Studio form a gorgeous interlocking pattern that brings in a touch of Old-World charm.

THE PLAN

Casual Dining with a Seamless Flow
Instead of a formal dining room, the homeowners opted for a more relaxed setup that blends effortlessly with the kitchen. A custom dining hutch helps define the space without closing it off, keeping the open-concept layout feeling connected and cohesive. Whether it’s a big family meal or a quiet morning coffee, this spot feels just right.
THE PLAN

A Sunroom Made for Relaxation
Just beyond the dining area, the sunroom is all about the views. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the lake, filling the space with natural light. A stone fireplace with a concrete mantel adds warmth, making it a cozy retreat year-round. Whether curling up with a book or watching the seasons change over the water, this space is designed to be a peaceful escape.

A Sophisticated Home Office
Tucked away for privacy, the home office is a perfect blend of function and style. Built-in bookshelves provide ample storage and display space, while every surface – walls, trim, and cabinetry – is painted in Sherwin-Williams Grays Harbor, creating a moody and sophisticated atmosphere. To add warmth and texture, we specified our favorite herringbone-patterned carpet, bringing in a timeless detail that enhances the overall coziness of the space. Whether working remotely or just needing a quiet spot to focus, this office is both practical and polished.
THE PLAN

With its thoughtful balance of coastal elegance and everyday comfort, this White Bear Lake home is a true reflection of its owners’ vision. Every detail, from the hand-selected materials to the seamless integration of form and function, was carefully chosen to create a home that is as beautiful as it is livable.
