Every year we challenge ourselves to predict design trends for the year ahead. We are excited to share our list of our top 10 interior design trend predictions for 2023!
COLORFUL PALETTES
Color is in! Neutrals will still be going strong but will be increasingly complemented by bold prints and rich color. Clients are wanting to add major color schemes in kitchens and dining rooms as well as any social spaces they are creating. Expect to see a more daring and fresh use of color in unexpected places. We are loving deeper saturated colors and jewel tones (think deep reds, sapphire blue, emerald green, topaz golds).
MIXED ERAS
Timeless favorites and contemporary styles come together for a hand-selected, personalized look that spans design eras and are personalized to each home. Think vintage mixed with modern, or midcentury-inspired styles paired with Scandinavian or farmhouse designs all spanning high and low price points. This is the new “Reimagined Classic”.
TEXTURE, TEXTURE, TEXTURE
The recent pandemic deprived us of one of our most ‘human’ senses: touch. In response to that, humans want to touch and feel in ways they never have before adding not just physical texture, but visual as well. Details like wood paneling, lime-washed walls, and plastered hoods add texture that is becoming a staple of design. Designers are also going to incorporate this with furniture selections and specifications, adding velvets and rich upholstered fabrics, providing layers of texture everywhere you look.
SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS
Mushrooms are becoming more important. Brands like Mylo Unleather are making waves and getting us excited about the possibilities mushrooms offer as an ethical and sustainable alternative to animal skin. Designers and clients are both better educated about the impact their work will have on the environment.
SOCIAL SPACES TAKE PRIORITY
The way we socialize and live is constantly changing. We are inviting more people into our homes and going out less. Making our guests feel at home when they visit has topped the lists of priorities. Clients want entertainment-focused rooms that offer versatile seating, performance fabrics, and flexible entertainment options. Expect more in home bar areas, theaters, and larger dining spaces that offer good flow both indoor and outdoor for both large and intimate gatherings.
MAXIMALISM
The maximalist decor trend is all about embracing excess. Think of large doses of color, exuberant patterns, and plenty of textural elements. While ‘more might be more’, the current trend for maximalism doesn’t equal mess. Designers truly help this masterpiece of a trend come together and feel intentional while seeming effortless. We are calling this “Granny Chic” or “Grand Millenial”.
AND MINIMALISM
This design trend is one of the most timeless. Minimalism is all about using the bare essentials to create a simple and uncluttered space. It’s characterized by simplicity, clean lines, and a monochromatic color scheme. Open, airy spaces highlight the main purpose of a room. Window coverings with simple lines and motorized lift create a crisp, luxurious modern look. Simplicity brings calm and serenity in an otherwise chaotic world.
SPATHROOMS
The spathroom – a spa-inspired bathroom – was a bit of an interior design inevitability, influenced by the increasing popularity of small self-care spaces within the home. Que: Gwenth Paltrow. She upped the game of luxury at-home spas and everyone is jumping in on this trend. We are seeing “self-care” go to a whole new level! Think..floor to ceiling marble, bathroom fireplaces, steam showers and a variation of dimmable lighting options in primary bathrooms. This is a trend to watch and we can’t wait to see what’s next!
ELEVATED LAUNDRY ROOMS AND PANTRIES
Beautiful spaces to work in are the new normal. People want larger rooms with an emphasis on functionality and storage. Butler’s pantries that are secondary kitchens tucked away are a luxury we can hop on board with!
MORE CURVES AND ARCHES
This was a prediction of ours in 2022 and we don’t see it going away anytime soon! People want to bring the outside in, and a curve or arc, gives spaces a more organic feel. Round curves offer softness and people are longing to feel cozy and comfortable in their spaces. Look out for 1970s-inspired curved graphics on wallpaper and flooring too.
These 10 trend predictions are sure to be seen throughout homes in 2023 and for years to come. Which one is your favorite? Are there any you think shouldn’t have made the cut? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
