Last week, Amy and our Sr. Designer, Kierstyn, took a trip down to High Point, North Carolina for the Fall Design Market. It’s a week we look forward to every year to discover the latest and greatest in the world of interior design, meet with our vendors, explore new products, and even have a little fun, too! We always leave feeling inspired by what’s trending and excited to take our knowledge back to our current and future projects.
If you followed along on social media during our time down there, you may have seen us share some of our favorite new products and design trends. Today on the blog, were sharing our top 10 interior design trends from this season’s market—let’s get started!
1. TAPERED LAMP SHADES
The tapered lamp shade is making a comeback! From subtle to sharp tapers, this shape is seen across all styles of light fixtures, including lamps, pendants, chandeliers and wall sconces. We also saw it used with many different materials, from linen shades, to metal to woven rattan.
2. CHECKERED PATTERNS
A nod to a classic look, checkered patterns were seen in many different uses, from area rugs, pillows, and even accessories! One of our favorite uses was with Chris Loves Julia’s new Francis rug collection with Loloi. A beautiful diamond checkered pattern that is cool and classic! We’ve heard mixed feelings about this trend, are you a fan?
3. SCALLOP DETAILS
Possibly one of our favorite design trends this market season, scalloped details were seen quite frequently. From scalloped wood details on furniture, to scalloped mirror frames and lamp shades. It’s a fun and playful accent that can add a little personality to any space!
4. BOUCLE AND NUBBY TEXTURES
It’s no surprise, boucle has had a huge presence in the design world the last few seasons and we don’t think it’s on its way out any time soon! We love how warm and cozy the texture is and the interest it can add to any furniture piece.
5. BLACK AND BRASS
We’re always fans of a mixed metal look and constantly encourage our clients to have fun with it! One of our favorite combos is matte black and brushed brass, which we continued to see a lot of this market, especially with light fixtures. Here’s a few of our favorite looks!
6. STONE MATERIALS
Nothing is more classic than a white marble, which we continue to use in projects time and time again. To play off of the timeless stone look, we began to see similar neutral stone looks, such as limestone and travertine. We love the natural, organic aesthetic this can bring to any room, especially with a statement pieces such as a coffee table.
7. ARCHES
Over the last few markets, we’ve seen a shift from geometric, straight lines to more organic, curved shapes. Arches made a big appearance this market, particularly in cased goods and with mirrors.
8. WHITE GESSO TEXTURES
White gesso was one of our design trends from last years market, but we started seeing it more and more this season and expect it to continue growing in popularity. We love the look of white-on-white and the subtle, textural aesthetic that white gesso offers. From light fixtures, to furniture pieces and even accessories, this is one trend we would love to see more of!
9. WOVEN MATERIALS
No shocker here– woven materials are continually seen used across the board, from furniture, lighting and accessories. We love the natural character it adds and the versatility it has to pair well with any design style!
10. TRENDING COLORS
We’ve named some of our favorite trending colors from this season, because what’s more fun than coming up with names for colors? And oddly enough, they are all food related— raisin, dijon, toast and olive green.
Raisin (our favorite!) is a beautiful muted brown color with purpley undertones. It’s both warm and cool at the same time, and a great neutral to pair with many other colors.
Dijon is a rich, warm mustardy color. Not too bright and overwhelming, but bold enough to be the pop of color that a room needs.
Toast, a play off of the Dijon color, is a muted caramel, tannish color. Also a great neutral color that can pair well with so many other colors.
Lastly, green has been a favorite trending color for many seasons now. We’re seeing more of an olive undertone to the green, which offers a warmer, muted pop of green, as opposed to emerald or forest green colors that have trended in the past.
We’re leaving market feeling inspired and excited to bring back some great design products and ideas to continue adding to our projects. What’s your favorite design trend out of the list? Let us know in the comments below!
