We’ve titled this project “Woodlands Casual” because this lovely Lake Elmo home sits nestled in a quiet, tree-filled neighborhood and has a beautiful, casual and welcoming feel to it. This home was newly constructed when our clients, Christa & Steve, hired us to help them with furnishings, window treatments, and decorating. This home has beautiful architecture and attention to detail. Adding the finishing touches transformed it from a “model home” looking house to a home that has beautiful layers of texture and color, and reflects the warm and sweet personality of its homeowners.
Entryway
The entryway was beautifully designed with architectural details. We love the tall ceilings that are accented by soffits and millwork. The arched front double door and arched openings make this home feel so special, right from the minute you walk in the front door. A welcoming but functional bench, pillows, and rug were added to bring softness to the space and provide a functional spot to put shoes on as well.
the DINING ROOM
Plantation shutters bring in a little southern charm and also provide privacy and light control. We added a classic plaid rug to add softness to the space but also keep it from being too formal. Neutral embroidered draperies soften the edges of the window and make the dining room feel a little more cozy. We had captains chairs custom-made with a lovely cut velvet fabric. This dining room hosts any family holidays and we love that it is open to the living room so it can also be enjoyed every day!
the living room
The living room has beautiful arches in the openings as well as over the fireplace wall. We had swivel glider chairs made in an adorable buffalo plaid. These chairs are SO comfortable and can swivel around to facilitate conversation with family at the dining room table, or in the kitchen, or can be a comfortable spot to watch tv as well. Touches of blue were brought in with pillows, but otherwise, we kept this space very neutral. Layers of texture, mixed metals, greenery, rustic woods, and beautiful drapery panels add personality and interest to the neutral palette. The view to the beautiful wooded back yard is a focal point and all of the decor supports the natural, organic feel of this property.
THE KITCHEN TABLE
The kitchen and informational dining area were warmed up with casual wood finishes, and simple furnishings keep it from feeling too formal. We added softness and color with the gorgeous blue and white patterned draperies and a soft gray rug. Once again, the lovely windows are the star of the show here!
We hope you enjoyed seeing this lovely home! We loved working with this fantastic family on both the main level of their home, as well as the lower level (Longhorns & Leather project) and helping them to make their home feel cozy and welcoming and happy! Working with them was truly an honor.
