College kids are packing-up and moving out to live their college lives. We curated two lists of budget-friendly finds to help spruce up their college living spaces: one for the gals and one for the guys. These finds are from Target and IKEA, making it easy and convenient to purchase these finds. An idea: make a day out of it with your kids. Go shopping and then head out for brunch or dinner at one of their favorite spots!
For the Gals
We wanted to curate a room that was fun, yet still neutral enough to play well with her roommate’s interior style. The best part about this mood board? All of the items are from Target! You may need to order some of these items online, but a one-stop shopping trip is our kind of shopping trip.
Rattan and Caning Decorative Wall Mirror with Hooks – Opalhouse™
This mirror has dual functionality: a place to get ready if her roommate is in the bathroom, and a place to hang keys, sweaters, purses, etc.
Braided Basket with Rope Natural/White – Opalhouse™
These baskets are perfect for storing extra blankets, sheets, or even clothing items in her closet area.
Tallulah Memory Foam Futon and Sofa Bed – Novogratz
A comfortable spot for her to lounge or to host friends for a weekend. We love that is has memory foam as well!
Brass Floor Lamp (Includes LED Light Bulb) – Hearth & Hand™ with Magnolia
Another find from Target – a pretty lamp for when those overhead fluorescent lights need to be turned off.
Ceylon Woven Dining Chair – White & Natural Wood – Opalhouse™
A tip: your desk chair doesn’t have to be a normal, black swivel chair. Opt for a choice like this one that will instantly lift the study space.
Wood & Cane Desk – Hearth & Hand™ with Magnolia
Many dorm rooms come with a desk already, but if you are wanting to switch it out for a desk your daughter will be excited to study at, this Wood Cane Desk from Target is gorgeous.
Faux White Dogwood Flower Arrangement – Hearth & Hand™ with Magnolia
A touch of greenery always makes the room complete. This dogwood arrangement is dainty and feminine.
Cicely Clipped Stripe Comforter Set with Sheets – Opalhouse™
We love textiles that bring in texture, while still remaining neutral. These bed fittings can last through style changes since they are neutral!
Woven Storage Ottoman Natural – Threshold™ designed with Studio McGee
This ottoman can be a place to lay back and kick up your feet, while storing items underneath, or a table top to set books or coasters on.
For the Guys
It’s no surprise that we’re keeping it neutral with the guys room, too. We love that this mood board still brings a sense of style in a laid back, easy-going way. We found these items at both Target and IKEA. If you want to make it a one-stop shopping trip, both stores have great options and dupes for each of the categories.
KORNSJÖ Black Clothes Rack – IKEA
This clothes rack has a minimalistic, clean feel. We love the side shelves. They’re great for storing folded clothes, toiletries, etc.
Cube Organizer Shelf – Threshold™
This can double as an organizer and entertainment center. He can store extra items, or hold a gaming station in the cubes, then a TV on top.
HOLMSUND Sleeper sectional – IKEA
A lounge-y sofa perfect for studying, relaxing, or playing games with the guys. It also pulls out to be a sofa sleeper which is great for guests.
Tip: this sleeper may be a bit long to fit under a twin XL raised bed. This option is best for larger dorm rooms or apartments.
Industrial Task Floor Lamp – Threshold™
This lamp brings a bit of class to the room. We love that the bulb is covered. Making it a great option for those late-night study sessions as his roommate sleeps.
This is a two-pack set of chairs, but you can purchase a single, similar style on Amazon here. If you purchase the two pack, he can always save the other for a dining area when he has an apartment, or gift it for his roommate in the dorms.
10″ x 6″ Artificial Grass Arrangement – Threshold™
This is one of the items that can be found (or something similar) at IKEA. The best part? It’s artificial so it’ll look great all year long.
Grid Comforter – Room Essentials™
This comforter is neutral and reversible, making it timeless throughout style changes, too.
We hope this list gave you and your kids some inspiration to make their home away from home stylish and inspiring! As they head off, we wish them all the best in the school year ahead. Be sure to subscribe to our newsletter to have more design ideas sent to your inbox weekly!
