We’re midway through July. Graduation parties are coming to a close, summer plans are starting to get checked off the schedule, and you may now be looking for some fun things to do with the family before your kids head back to school. We rounded up 10 ideas for every family to enjoy in or near the Twin Cities. Let’s get to it!
1. SIP & TOUR THE CITY ON A PEDAL PUB
This option is perfect for the families that are all 21+. It’s a fun way to spend a day touring the cities while also getting a little fitness in. Whether you want to brewery hop in Northeast Minneapolis, or tour Downtown St Paul, there are pedal pub tours for everyone. With there being a few different companies to book with, we’d recommend doing your research to find the company and tour that works best for you. We personally like Travelling Tap!
2. RENT A BOAT WITH YOUR BOAT CLUB
Don’t have a boat of your own but want to enjoy the day on the water with your crew? Your Boat Club makes it easy with a variety of rivers and lakes to choose from, booking online and having the boat gassed and clean before you arrive. It’s a seamless way to enjoy the day with family. Pack some fun snacks, drinks, and away you go!
3. CRUISE STILLWATER ON PEDEGO ELECTRIC BIKES
Stillwater in itself is such a cute area to explore. Make it a memorable day by cruising the town on Pedego Electric Bikes. They even have tours that they will take you on. If you take your own tour, stop at one of the breweries in town, or coast along the river.
4. CREATE A DIY DISTILLERY TOUR
With a designated driver, of course. The Twin Cities is full of amazing craft cocktail distilleries to choose from. A fun way to show your family a good time in a classy way. A few of our favorites that are close-by to one another: Tattersall Distilling, Norseman Distillery, Twin Spirits Distillery.
5. PADDLE BOARD OR PEDAL BOAT LAKE BDE MAKA SKA
Another easy way to spend a day on the water in the Land of Lakes. Paddle boarding or pedal boating are both perfect for those wanting a more active approach to their family outing. You can rent paddle boards, pedal boats and more through Wheel Fun Rentals located right on the lake!
6. TAKE AN OUTDOOR FITNESS CLASS
The family that works out together, stays together, right? Hit up a local outdoor fitness class. Sometimes they’re even free! One of our favorites to attend is a class held by Alchemy 365. Be sure to follow them on Facebook as they give updates on when they plan to host their outdoor classes.
7. TAKE A SWING AT TOP GOLF, X-GOLF OR PUTT AWAY AT CAN CAN WONDERLAND
The Twin Cities isn’t shy about its love for the game of golf. If you and your family love to golf, switch it up and take them to Top Golf, X-Golf, or Can Can Wonderland. All are a unique version of the game and will definitely be a family outing to remember! Here’s a photo of our team at Top Golf in May. Fun fact: we designed all of the Minnesota X-Golf locations and are currently working on two other locations in Appleton, Wisconsin and Medina, MN.

8. KAYAK THE ST CROIX IN TAYLORS FALLS
A bit further out of the cities, but well worth the drive! This gorgeous, picturesque place is the perfect place to get away from it all for a day with the family. Park at Interstate State Park and rent a kayak or canoe from there. Taylors Falls Canoe Rental makes it an easy day by providing a shuttle back for the Osecola trip.
9. PLAN A STAYCATION
This would be a fun idea for a mother-daughter duo. The Twin Cities wows when it comes to a variety of boutique hotels that will be sure to impress even the “too-cool-for-school” kids of yours. We wrote about a few options in a recent blog, but to sum it up our favorites are the Hewing Hotel, Hotel Alma, and Hotel Crosby.
10. WATCH SOME BALL AT THE ST PAUL SAINTS STADIUM
A classic family outing idea – a day, or evening, at the ballpark. Enjoy some good food, brews, live entertainment and sometimes even fireworks at a Saints Game. We love that the Saints games have a more hometown feel. With so many fun restaurants right in the area, make a day or evening out of it with some reservations at a new place, too. You could also start or end the day with taking your own tour of downtown St Paul with Lime Scooters that are located all over the city. They are such a blast and will surely be such a fun experience for the entire family!
There you have it – our list of 10 things to do with your family near the Twin Cities. We hope you and your family are able to spend some quality time together before the summer ends or they head back to school!
