Welcome back to our second week of our Meet the Team Series! This week we’re hearing from our lead designer, Kierstyn Timmers. From her eye for gorgeous designs, to her love for camping, to some weekends spent pouring beer at her dad’s brewery, we’re blessed to know Kierstyn and have her as a crucial part of our Interior Impressions team.
1. WHAT IS YOUR ROLE IN THE COMPANY?
I am the lead interior designer here at Interior Impressions.
2. WHAT ARE THREE WORDS THAT WOULD DESCRIBE YOU?
Detail-oriented. Driven. Homebody.
3. WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
Each work day can be different, which I love! My time as a designer is typically spent in client meetings, sourcing materials, finishes or furniture, creating floor plans and elevations, or putting together design boards. In the evenings I enjoy spending time with my husband and two pups, Sawyer and Harley.
4. WHAT ARE THREE HABITS THAT YOU HAVE THAT YOU ATTRIBUTE TO YOUR SUCCESS?
This is my Enneagram 1 talking…
1. Perfectionistic and very detail-oriented!
2. Purposeful with everything I do (in other words, I think through everything before acting on it!)
3. Determined and passionate, and sometimes even a little competitive 😉
5. WHEN AND WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A DESIGNER?
I’ve always had a creative mind and was happiest when putting it to use, whatever the task was. I found a passion for interior design in high school and knew right away it was the career I wanted to pursue! I love being able to create comforting and beautiful environments for people to call home.
6. WHAT’S A GOAL YOU HAVE FOR YOURSELF THAT YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH IN THE NEXT YEAR?
Actually finish a house project in our own home! It’s funny how being an interior designer you work on other people’s homes all day long, but it’s sometimes hard finding time to put the effort into your own home. Our next big project is replacing all of the flooring in our home!
7. WHO IS SOMEONE YOU ADMIRE AND WHY?
I have so many designer crushes! To name a few of my faves, Amber Lewis (Amber Interiors), Heidi Caillier, Jenni Yolo (I Spy DIY), Light and Dwell, Shea McGee (Studio McGee)
8. WHAT ARE YOU HAPPIEST DOING WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?
Thrifting! It’s honestly my happy place. One of my favorite things to do is incorporate second hand goods into my own home. There’s something about giving life back to old, well used pieces that sparks joy in me. And I love finding a good deal!
I also love being outdoors, helping out at my dad’s brewery, camping and travelling whenever I have the chance.
9. WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’D GIVE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF?
Stop trying to plan your whole life out, it never works! Set goals, work towards them, but be adaptable to change and learn to go with the flow.
10. what is your dream design project?
My hands-down dream project would be to restore/fix up a 100+ year old home. I love the concept of honoring historic and traditional architectural elements and merging them with modern design methods, a beautiful meld of old and new!
It was a joy to hear more about our lead designer, Kierstyn! Her love for thrifting definitely deserves a “how-to” blog real soon.
Stay tuned for next Wednesday for our next blog on our Meet the Team series where you’ll get to meet our interior designer intern, Haley Leadstrom.
XO,
Interior Impressions Team
