Welcome to the Gem Lake Refresh. What a difference a little paint can make! Our clients in beautiful Gem Lake, MN, already had a very beautiful and elegant home. The 2 story foyer and living room welcome guests with a dramatic view through the large windows, drawing your eye to the trees and creek that run through the property. The challenge we faced was that the colors and some of the accessories and artwork were selected over 10 years ago. It was a time when dark colors and more elaborate accessories and art pieces were on trend. This lovely home was ready to get a makeover.
GREAT ROOM
Our main goal was to lighten and brighten up the feel of these rooms, and to bring in fresh and current accessories and artwork. This first room shown here is their main living room. We actually left the main wall color alone, but painted the cabinetry, fireplace surround, baseboards and trim a warm white. We added a serene horizontal abstract wallpaper to the arched area above the fireplace. We had new custom draperies made in a very light and airy textural linen fabric. We purposely did not add lining to it, allowing the light to peek through. Adding a gorgeous decorative tape trim was a perfect finishing touch to make these 15 foot long draperies spectacular! Our clients already had fabulous furniture, so there was no need to change that out. We brought in a beautiful new area rug, artwork, pillows, and new accessories to complete the transformation of this room.
GUEST BEDROOM
The guest bedroom also suffered from the same dark and dated ailment. We used the same wallpaper as we did above the fireplace to create a stunning feature wall in this luxurious guest bedroom. The only furniture pieces we changed were the 2 chairs in the window bay. We had the bench at the foot of the bed reupholstered, brought in new artwork, lamps, accessories, and new bedding. I sure wouldn’t mind staying in this beautiful guest room!
LOWER LEVEL FAMILY ROOM
The lower level family room also needed to be brightened up. Changing the paint color on the walls created an immediate lift! We added some fun new pillows, new accessories and artwork to make this family room feel more welcoming and cheerful.
OWNERS BEDROOM
The owner’s bedroom was feeling very dark and dreary. Their bedroom has gorgeous views of the back yard and so many pretty details with the fireplace and built-ins, a sitting area with 2 lounge chairs in front of the floor to ceiling windows, and a lot of space to enjoy. We brought in a beautiful textural, striped grass-cloth wallpaper to highlight the high ceilings and bring interest to the otherwise bare and boring walls. Our client loves plum/purple and wanted to work with her existing drapery panels. We honored the touches of purple with a custom made lumbar pillow on the bed and smaller pillows on the lounge chairs, as well as touches of plum in the artwork and accessories. Overall, we kept the palette light, fresh and mostly monochromatic to bring a sense of calm and relaxation to this room. New bedding, new artwork, new carpeting, and new accessories brought this owner’s suite to a new level. One of my favorite additions was the new lounge chairs in an adorable buffalo check fabric!
HOME OFFICE
Last but not least was the home office space. Again, we brightened up the walls with a soft shade of greenish blue. Fresh and bright new artwork, a new end table and chairs created a welcoming spot to sit a spell, read a book or chat with each other at the end of the day! We hope you enjoyed seeing the transformation of this lovely home! As you can see, it doesn’t always take a major remodeling project to make your home more current, fresh and bright! We’d love to help you if you are ready to bring your home out of the dark and heavy trend of the early 2000’s!
