Say hello to Design Assistant, Jordan! Jordan is a creative problem solver with an instinctual knack for discovering the root need and style preferences for each client and project. She is the woman with all the answers in the showroom and is always eager to help her coworkers and clients. As a design assistant she works alongside Amy to create functional and beautiful designs that makes clients’ dreams come true. Let’s get to know Jordan a bit more:
HOW DID YOU GET YOUR START IN INTERIOR DESIGN?
I got my official start in interior design a little over two years ago. Growing up with an interior designer mother, Amy, I always respected how she kept our home looking beautiful, but I never really pursued interior design outside helping friends and family with small projects once in a while. I was working with children and adolescents as a mental health therapist and started to feel the burnout. It was when I decided a career in the mental health field wasn’t sustainable for me that I considered interior design as a career. I began taking interior design classes at Century College and my mother graciously offered me a position heading up the marketing on her team. Once a design assistant position opened, I gladly switched over.
WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FROM?
Traveling, restaurants, hotels, fashion, social media, and the interior design community is where I draw inspiration from. Emily Henderson and Sarah Sherman Samuel can do no wrong in my book. I am also inspired by all of the unique and customizable products we have at our fingertips through the trade.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR DESIGN AESTHETIC?
My personal design aesthetic is pretty eclectic – a mix of modern, vintage + antiques, textural elements and greenery, always. I love black, white and gold with pops of color. I make an effort to not tread on one style, but to create a cohesive space with items I love. If I could spend every day finding treasures at antique stores and specialty shops for clients, I would be a very happy lady.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR DREAM INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT?
A bucket list project is a boutique hotel and/or restaurant. I personally love commercial projects a bit more than residential, and if I could continue to be so lucky to work on small commercial projects I would be the happiest gal. Commercial projects allow us as designers to go bolder than you typically can in someone’s home. It’s so much fun to create “wow” moments for the space’s employees, customers, guests and clients.
WHAT IS A CHALLENGE FOR YOU IN THIS INDUSTRY?
One specific challenge is having products that I fall in love with go out of stock or be discontinued. This happened recently on a project, and although we found a wonderful secondary option, my vision for the space was built around that original product. We had to adjust our design plans, and that is a part of the job that can be frustrating, but also test your creativity and patience.
WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR PROFESSIONAL GOALS?
I am a forever student – it is important to continuously grow and learn and realize we will never know everything. I would like to obtain my Kitchen and Bath Design Certificate and learn more design computer programs to advance my skillset and better serve our clients. In the business I would love to expand our number of commercial projects and clients.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I love to travel, and have been lucky enough to travel quite a bit in my life. My husband and I are traveling to Europe, visiting Ireland, Greece, Italy and Germany, for 16 days this fall. On the daily I enjoy drawing and painting, creating handmade occasion cards, calligraphy, exercising at F45 and yoga, hiking, reading and binging a good TV show.
When you work with Interior Impressions, you will likely work with Jordan. She would love to meet you!
Have a wonderful long weekend,
