One of the most fun and unique projects to date, X-Golf Woodbury was our first commercial project at Interior Impressions and we hope not our last. X-Golf owners and Woodbury residents were inspired to open up the first X-Golf franchise in Minnesota after regularly driving their son far away from Woodbury to practice during cold winter months. Not only would X-Golf accommodate their son’s needs, but fulfill a need for more indoor golf options in the Twin Cities area, let alone Minnesota. Now, they have an amazing space at X-Golf Woodbury that has six golf simulators, a generous bar, a lounge and gaming area. To learn more about X-Golf and the history, check out their website here. Check out initial concepts and the final product below.
INITIAL CONCEPTS
During the initial design presentation, the owners were given three themed concepts to choose from and they picked “Modern Urban Golfing.” What does the “Modern Urban Golfing”concept entail? Making X-Golf Woodbury feel as though it were located in the cities, with modern and outdoorsy features yet still maintaining a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. We stuck with a black, white, gold, and green color palette. To bring the outdoors in, we incorporated a geometric floral print tile, astroturf walls, natural wood on the face of the bar, and bee patterned wallpaper. Fun fact: One of the owners is a beekeeper, so the clients were sold when they saw the green and gold bee print wallpaper. There was a perfect spot for a custom banquette in the X-Golf plans, so we thought why not turn it into a golfer’s lounge with a speakeasy twist. The bathrooms were so much fun to design. Because the bathrooms were in a commercial space, we were able to take more design risks than normal. One of the biggest design risks was doing gold grout in the bathrooms. We had never done gold grout before. After reading reviews about a few options we had in mind, we were almost going to forget it all together. Luckily, the owners were braver than we were and willing to take the risk, which really paid off. Here are the idea boards for the “Modern Urban Golfing” concept:
BAR AREA
The bar area was kept simple, beautiful, and clean. The reclaimed wood warms up the modern space and makes for a durable bar face surface. The geometric floral tile from The Tile Shop is a focal point. You can see the gorgeous tile from the bar area and throughout the space. Honestly, that kitchen wall tile is one of our favorite parts of the entire design.
A local vendor was used for the reclaimed wood to cover the face of the bar, and was responsible for creating the perfect high top table with wood in a chevron pattern. The high top table is perfect for larger parties and has one of the coolest light fixtures centered above it (we love it). The green backless bar stools were the perfect addition and allow for the table to shine.
LOUNGE AREA
The goal for the lounge area was to make it feel like a classy golf lounge, yet keeping it comfortable and welcoming. The green custom banquette was designed by us and built by Minnesota Millwork & Fixtures, who totally knocked it out of the park! The buffalo check wallpaper is definitely a feature, and the clients found the absolute perfect prints to hang on the wall. The brass swing arm fixtures pop and add soft light. The pillows are not typically in this area but were used to style the shoot, along with the cute jade plant. You can slightly see the Mrs. Pacman game sticking out on the right in the above picture – it’s there waiting for you to play!
RESTROOMS
The black, white, and gold bathroom turned into a vintage mix that we adore with an Art Deco flair. The black tile was originally going to be a black matte chevron tile. Due to time constraints, we went with a glossy black chevron tile. We think it turned out great especially with the gold grout. The gold and white patterned wallpaper is very complementary, and vintage golf prints were found for finishing touches at a local antique shop.
As stated above, one of the owners is a beekeeper, so the green and gold bee print wallpaper was perfect. The Michael Scott gem was found by our client, who has an excellent sense of humor if we say so ourselves. The white chevron tile looked equally beautiful as the black chevron tile with the gold grout.
TEE TIME
X-Golf Woodbury is the perfect spot to practice your swing during the cold winter months. You can play 18 or 9 holes, or choose a driving range mode and can pick from numerous virtual golf courses from around the world. They have a golf league, X-league, that meets weekly and have a PGA Associate on deck for lessons and training. Seriously, go check them out!
Thanks so much for reading! We are so excited to share this project with you and look forward to hopefully doing more commercial projects in the future.
Have a wonderful weekend,
