With a blink of an eye, 2018 is coming to an end. Welcoming the new year offers an opportunity to start anew and make resolutions. You won’t find weight loss regimes, diet programs or workout plans from us. But we do strongly believe our homes affect our health and wellbeing. Instead of focusing on resolutions for our bodies, we are focusing on how to better our homes in 2019. Here are a couple resolutions for your home in the new year.
Large Renovation
Is your kitchen dysfunctional, laundry room an eyesore, or bathroom outdated? It’s time to remember your forgotten rooms again. The first big step is to determine a budget that is realistic and attainable for your project and family’s needs. Second, look long and hard at these spaces and visualize your dream space that is beautiful and functional for you and your family. Pinterest and Instagram are wonderful tools to save inspiration pictures of what kind of space you’d like to live in and useful to show your designer. Third, hire a designer. We have the educational background, resources and connections to vendors, will keep in line with your budget, and help make decisions. Minimal Makeovers
Your home may just need a refresh. Interior Impressions has access to products you can’t find in your typical retail store. We can create a truly custom design by selecting from thousands of fabrics, hundreds of tile, and infinite wallpaper options you can’t find at the store or online. Completely elevate the look and feel of your living room with custom sofas, chairs or draperies. Turn your bedroom into a retreat instead of the room you simply sleep in. We love adding a feature wall behind a dramatic headboard.
New Habits
We can get into ruts or “ways of doing things” in our home. Reevaluate your cleaning and maintenance practices throughout your home and make changes where needed. Does dusting or vacuuming get put on the back burner? Set days of the week dedicated to that chore and do it right after breakfast or when you get home from work. Do you forget when it’s time to change the air filters? Set a reminder on your cell phone to replace every three months, or two months if you have pets. If you are interested in more cleaning tips and tricks, we’ve got you covered in this blog post on Fall cleaning (you can apply it to Spring, too).
Simplify + Declutter
The introductory months of the new year provides a great opportunity to go through your storage spaces, closets, and cupboards to declutter. Especially after the holidays, we seem to acquire a mountain of stuff. Unorganized clutter can stifle your productivity and energy. Choose a day of the week to go through each space and remove items you don’t use, wear or love and donate it to charity until you’ve gone through it all.
Create a “Me” Spot
Where is your space in your home? A place you feel utterly relaxed, can enjoy reading a book, exercising, or doing nothing! Fill this space with things you love, are meaningful, and makes you smile. This space will look different for everyone, so make it yours. This space may not be a quick weekend project, but a curation of items collected throughout your years and travels.
Thank you for a wonderful 2018. We can’t wait to see you in 2019!
