Thanksgiving is less than one week away! Get ready for family, friends, warmth, and comfort food prepared with love! We recently teamed up with Sweet Peas Floral for part of our Thanksgiving photo shoot. Sweet Peas Floral is located in Woodbury, owned by our friend Tara, and the place to go for all of your floral arrangement needs. Check out our collaboration in creating a beautiful Thanksgiving tablescape below. Following our tablescape photos, we are sharing some of our favorite Thanksgiving recipes with you as well!
TURKEY DAY TABLESCAPE
The goal for our tablescape this year was to make it transitional and multi-purpose. We wanted our table decor to embody coziness, warmth, and have elements that could also be incorporated later into Christmas/Holiday decor. The plush faux fur snow leopard table runner from Pier 1 Imports is definitely a favorite find this year. It is adaptable to various styles and provides texture and warmth. The plaid napkins are also from Pier 1 Imports. The wood lantern is compliments of Sweet Peas Floral, along with the greenery, flowers, and driftwood. By layering a wood charger on top of the faux fur table runner, it adds contrast and interest. The “thankful” plate was found at Crate & Barrel a few years ago, but you can find very similar salad plates here.
Sweet Peas Floral made a beautiful Fall floral arrangement that can stand on its own as a masterful centerpiece. We incorporated additional elements to add height and dimension. A simple table decor idea that you can switch up seasonally is placing in-season produce or flowers on a plate charger, and sealing the deal with a pretty cloche on top. Here, we used a boxwood wreath from our retail items and a white pumpkin from our local grocery store at the center. The Europe2You cloche, decorative beads, and boxwood wreaths are available for sale through Interior Impressions.
We have been heavily inspired by nature, and have been loving an organic, natural look. That translated into our tablescape, as we have faux fur, beads, florals, greenery, and we even threw in some antlers from Sweet Peas Floral! We dig the mix of natural elements with a fun plaid thrown in. Can you tell we also really like plaid lately? Fall is in the air, people!
RECIPES
There is no denying that turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and a cranberry sauce are four classic elements of a Thanksgiving meal. They are a must, but what are other creative ideas we can give you to spice things up this Thanksgiving? Check out some of our favorites below.
CHARCUTERIE PLATE
Creating a gorgeous charcuterie plate has become somewhat of an art…or maybe a competition? Nah. This board boasts seasonal flair with ingredients like figs, pears, and apples. For the cheese, we went with a soft brie and a rosemary and sage cheddar cheese. Fruit-heavy, we also incorporated grapes and dried apricots. Although the crackers are limited, they are packed with flavor themselves – rosemary and raisin crisps. Add some prosciutto and salami for the meats, or whatever you like and sprinkle in some herbs for fragrance and looks of course. Also, don’t forget the nuts. Additional ideas: honey, french bread, jalapeno jam, or some cranberries for an easy holiday addition.
SWEET POTATO BAKE
This recipe is a favorite of Amy’s and one she makes every year. It is packed full of flavor and texture, and provides a fresh take on typical sweet potatoes. Try it out for yourselves. It has been known to be a favorite for people that typically don’t like sweet potatoes.
INGREDIENTS:
3 cups sweet potatoes (mashed and cooled)
1 1/2 cups brown sugar (packed, divided)
2 large eggs (lightly beaten)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup milk
3/4 cup butter (melted, divided)
1/3 cup flour
4 ounces pecans (chopped, 1 cup
DIRECTIONS:
Heat the oven to 350 F
Butter a 2-quart casserole or baking dish.
In a large bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes with 1 cup of the brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, milk, and 1/2 cup of melted butter. Blend thoroughly and spoon the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
In another bowl combine the remaining 1/2 cup of brown sugar, the flour, the remaining 1/4 cup of melted butter, and the chopped pecans.
Sprinkle the pecan mixture on top
Bake the casserole for 35 to 40 minutes, until the filling is hot and the topping has browned.
BRUSSELS SPROUTS WITH PANCETTA
In our opinion, brussels sprouts have come a long way and are a favorite of the greens. If you want to switch it up and not have green bean casserole this year (although we don’t actually suggest nixing the green bean casserole because it’s phenomenal), or just adding in another green, try these rich brussels sprouts! Check out the rockstar recipe below:
INGREDIENTS:
1 pound fresh Brussels sprouts, trimmed
2 tablespoons olive oil
3 ounces paper-thin slices pancetta, coarsely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
3/4 cup low-salt chicken broth
DIRECTIONS:
Partially cook the Brussels sprouts in a large pot of boiling salted water, about 4 minutes. Drain.
Meanwhile, heat the oil in a heavy large skillet over medium heat. Add the pancetta and saute until beginning to crisp, about 3 minutes. Add the garlic and saute until pale golden, about 2 minutes. Add the Brussels sprouts to the same skillet and saute until heated through and beginning to brown, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, to taste. Add the broth and simmer until the broth reduces just enough to coat the Brussels sprouts, about 3 minutes. Serve.
Wishing you and yours a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! If you are interested in purchasing any of the products in our photo shoot, let us know.
Have a fantastic weekend, friends!
