The Interior Impressions Design Team at High Point Market: Kris, Amy, Kelsey and Brittany
Every year the Interior Impressions Design Team and I travel to High Point, NC to attend the High Point Market. High Point Market is a furnishing industry tradeshow that showcases new products and upcoming trends in home décor. It is a trip we look forward to every time. We like to call it Disneyland for Designers! I am seriously like a kid in a candy store surrounded by all the luscious colors, beautiful fabrics and amazing furnishings! This year’s trends are full of texture, florals, mixed metals, retro glam and beautiful colors! Here are some of the trends that we picked up on from this fall’s market:
Textures Galore
Menswear styles, herringbone, houndstooth, tweed, grasscloth, leather accents are just a few of the amazing textures that are hot for 2016!
Furs and Hides are still all the rage! We saw a lot of sheerling, alpaca wool, Mongolian fur, hair on hide and cowhide.
Bedding: It’s all about comfort, texture and layering for your bedroom. Throw that formal matching set out! 2016 is all about layering soft textures and comfortable fabrics. Look for organic cotton, linen, softer colors, tone on tone and monochromatic color schemes instead of heavy weight comforters or a lot of silks and shiny textures. We sell a beautiful bedding line made from all organic hemp and cottons. Vist us to see the cozy and luxurious Bella Notte line!
You’ll find that the texture theme plays out in furniture as well.
Rustic Wood has replaced a polished wood finish when it comes to furniture and dining sets. Choose upholstered dining chairs over wood. It’s all about casual comfort – goodbye formal, hello casual comfort!
Mid-Century Modern and Danish Modern details are another upcoming trend. Believe it or not but Shabby Chic slipcovered chairs and sofas are still in!
Nailhead trim, navy or french blue velvet and tufted chesterfield style sofas simply showcase how important texture and details are for 2016!
With Rugs we are seeing an emergence of more natural fibers like Jute and Hemp mixed with wool. Soft shaggy textures are also popular. Geometric and softer abstract designs are taking the place of traditional patterns.
Color
It’s seems like anything goes when it comes to color for 2016!
I love the combination of Navy, Gray and Gold. Simply sophisticated! While teal and aqua are still in, the focus was on stronger shades of blue. Think Navy, French Blue and Denims. Coastal and Nautical falls in that blue theme and is still a popular look.
{Love this combination of navy, geometric patterned toss pillows and large canvas floral prints. Notice the rug is a natural hemp which brings even more texture to this room.}
Black and White as well as Black and Gold are strong combinations.
{This room is anchored with a large geometric patterned rug. LOVE the black and gold toss pillows and matching ottoman. The ottoman brings that retro glam look with it’s burnished gold base. Stunning!}
Emerald Green, Fuschia/Hot Pink, Yellow, Gray, Rusty Orange, Deep Red are some of the other color trends. Bring together beautiful color combinations and texture to create interest in a room!
New Finishes in Lighting
Wow, the finishes in lighting are amazing! Polished chrome, champagne metallic and burnished gold and brass….yes gold and brass are back! You won’t see much of the 1990’s shiny bright and brassy golds though. Today’s golds are muted and antiqued to give a vintage feel or they are softened with tones of champagne or silver in them. Since the 90’s, I NEVER thought I’d say I like gold again but I’ve fallen in love with the “new gold” finishes! Oil rubbed bronze, dark brown and black finishes are still popular. We saw very little satin nickel or brushed silver finishes in lighting at market. Additinally, copper didn’t take off as well as they predicted last year.
{Love these new finishes – champagne gold and burnished gold!}
Lighting is becoming more dramatic with oversized chandeliers and lamps, clustered light fixtures, industrial, draped chainlink designs and sputnik orbit styles are just a few of my favorites.
One of our favorite new product lines is the Kate Spade lighting line carried by Visul Comfort. We just about ran to the showroom to see her beautiful new collection and it is truly stunning! I love anything Kate Spade and her lighting line did not disapppoint!
{Signature Kate Spade Bow!}
{Wouldn’t be Kate Spade without polka dots…and metallic at that!)
Gallery Walls & Clustering
The gallery wall look is HOT for 2016! The trend is creating a wall of uniqueness by gathering a casual collection of personal framed photos, mirrors, accessories and adding a whimsical touch!
Clustering is a trend in lighting as well as artwork and mirrors! Grouping together artwork of the same size or even mixing different forms of media creates a unique point of interest in any space.
Amazing Accessories
Mixing Metallics and Metals like polished chrome, brass and gold…yes, I said brass and gold again! Think Retro Bling!
Minerals like agates and rough cut crystals are a strong accent for 2016.
Bringing nature inside is still on trend – Horses, Mounted Deer, Ram Heads, Horns. Feathers are popular in artwork as well as accessories. Rustic Glam is all the rage! Love the rustic wood, glass, metals AND interesting gold torso!
Watercolors, abstracts, large canvas pieces, and feathers are on trend for artwork. Like I mentioned above, clustering the same sizes or different sizes and styles of artwork is the way to go for 2016!
One of the overall themes I love is the Eclectic Mix of rustic glam and mixed colors. I simply love this theme! It provides a platform for personalization of your space.
Our purchases from the High Point Market are just hitting the store! We invite you to stop by and check out some of the trends at Interior Impressions! We’d love to see you!
