We are so excited to share this project reveal that we are naming “Fresh Twist on Traditional”. The homeowners owned a wonderful collection of antique decor and sturdy furniture pieces to work with. When a home has phenomenal bones with tall ceilings, beautiful millwork and solid craftsmanship, a little refresh goes a long way.
ENTRYWAY
What a wonderful first impression to this home! The spacious front entry welcomes guests and showcases the beautiful woodwork from the first step in the door. If you’re lucky, the homeowners’ two cute pups will welcome you too! This home boasts luxuriously tall ceilings, allowing for additional transom windows to bring in tons of natural light. The homeowners painted the armoire closet to hold guests’ coats and we added a new rug to hold their shoes. A new lantern-style light fixture hangs over the open staircase, drawing your eyes up to the magnificent beams.
FORMAL LIVING ROOM
After walking in the front door, the living room greets you with great windows and exceptional ceiling beams. We worked with some furniture pieces the homeowners already had, including the teal leather sofa, coffee and side tables, and reupholstered the beautiful settee. The fireplace and built-in bookcases got a fresh coat of paint to give the feature wall a blank canvas and visually lighten it up from the rest of the wood tones. We used our formula on how to style shelves and used some of the homeowners’ antiques and filled in with new pieces everywhere else. We filled the space in the room with two new matching side chairs in a modern upholstery to complement the teal sofa and provide additional seating.
KITCHEN
This kitchen has cabinetry that looks like a custom furniture piece. They are stunning. We brought them into 2019 with a fresh coat of paint to lighten up the room. We used a warm white on the surround and dark hue on the island. A new light fixture over the island gives great task lighting for all gathered around. We finished the kitchen with new counter stools and decor pieces on open shelving. The adjoining butler’s pantry cabinetry was painted a lovely shade of blue and dolled up with new accessories.
DINING ROOM
This dreamy dining room is nestled in between the kitchen and cozy family room, making it ideal for entertaining. The double sided fireplace from the formal living room connects the rooms and adds so much warmth. We updated with a complementary linear chandelier to the kitchen light fixture. The homeowner re-purposed her existing dining table by painting it black. We paired it with some new caned back dining chairs for a fresh twist. A new neutral cozy rug is a great partner with the colorful rug in the adjoining family room. Tall new lamps stand proud on the beautiful credenza piece. The homeowners’ existing landscape artwork fit seamlessly into the room and added great color and visual interest.
FAMILY ROOM
The cozy family room is a warm space to settle in with the family. The grid upholstery on the reupholstered ottoman adds a modern flare to its traditional body style and unites colors in the rug with the room. A beautiful new sideboard with scalloped details sits underneath a framed TV. A few fresh accessories really finished off the room.

POWDER ROOM
You know we love installing wallpaper in powder bathrooms. We adore this wallpaper! It is soft and feminine and not overpowering in pattern and color. We updated fixtures and finishes to a soft brass to match the wallpaper and craftsman style of the home. A scalloped vanity mirror is the perfect detail to finish the space.
What a project! This home has exceptionally beautiful architectural features and we are thrilled with the outcome of this phase of this home refresh. We are excited for upcoming projects with these homeowners as we work with their lower level to make it as fresh and updated as their main floor. We hope this project inspires other homeowners to work with what they have and recognize that you don’t have to gut down to the studs to update your home.
Have a merry weekend,
